Risks of Surgery

As with any kind of surgical procedure certain risks apply. These risks include:
  • Mortality rate 0.5 - 2.5% ( 1-1.5%)
  • DVT or Pulmonary Embolus
  • Infections
  • Bleeding (possible transfusion)
  • Leaks (some require re-operation)
  • Spleen injury
  • Hernia
Possible side-effects of surgery may include:
  • Nausea
  • Early post-op or if one overeats
  • Food intolerances
  • Red meat, milk, fats, sugars
  • Less bowel function
  • Hair loss
  • Dumping syndrome
